Stories of Sri Lankan Women
One of Everystory’s flagship programs is dedicated to documenting and sharing the powerful, often overlooked stories of Sri Lankan women. These stories highlight the struggles, resilience, and contributions of women who have defied oppressive and patriarchal structures to shape (and have also, in turn, been shaped) the social, political, and other trajectories of Sri Lankan history.
Through Stories of Sri Lankan Women, over the next three years we are working towards building narratives reflecting the diverse stories of women in shaping the country’s political, cultural, and social landscapes.
The work includes first-person interviews, archival research, and community testimony, capturing the stories of women from various backgrounds and experiences—artists, scientists, activists, journalists, sportswomen, and more. We aim to explore the full trajectory of their lives and experiences, not focusing on a single moment but understanding the continuous process of resistance and resilience. These stories will not only highlight historical figures but also bring to the forefront living legends whose struggles and victories continue to inspire.

The work is built on the tenet of democratizing knowledge to make sure the material we collect, archive, and record is free and publicly available. We envision this as a book for children.
